Volunteering for Nuçi’s Space is a chance to be a part of a long-standing Athens network of creatives and socially-minded individuals striving to keep our community healthy and connected.

If you’re looking to get involved with the Athens music scene, have an interest in mental health, or just want to make a difference in your community, Nuçi’s Space is the perfect place to start!

About the Volunteer Role:

Volunteers are a huge part of what keeps Nuçi’s Space running on a daily basis. The primary volunteer role is very similar to a front desk receptionist - you’ll keep track of visitors to the space, answer and route phone calls, and help us keep the communal area and practice rooms tidy and in good working order.

Volunteers staff our front desk every weekday from 10 AM until 8 PM in two-hour long shifts. Volunteers manage their own schedule so you have a ton of flexibility based on what you can contribute!

In addition to the primary volunteer role, we also have several specialized volunteer positions that are available to experienced volunteers interested in receiving extra training and becoming more involved with Nuçi's Space.

Specialized Volunteer Roles:

  • Only available for evenings or weekends? We host lots of events at Nuçi's, both public and private that require volunteers outside of normal business hours! At events, volunteers help staff our concession stand and merchandise table, as well as assisting staff in the setup and teardown for the event.

  • Our health and wellness program is central to the mission of Nuçi's Space. In this mission, we have many clients and we partner with a wide variety of services around the city. Volunteers in this program contribute by helping us keep in touch with clients and our partners, scheduling appointments, updating our database, and researching new services.

  • Promotion of our services and events is a big part of how Nuçi's Space connects with both donors and people in need. Volunteers assisting with the marketing & communications department can choose to work events, capturing photos and video, or behind the scenes helping to produce copy or design promotional assets.

  • Since our focus is the musician community, we offer many services specifically tailored to their needs, including rehearsal rooms and rental equipment. Volunteering with the musician services program involves testing and maintaining this gear and assisting patrons with technical needs, so if you're a musician or gearhead, let us know if you'd like to get involved!

Have some skills or interests not listed here that you think would be a good fit for Nuçi’s Space? Let your volunteer coordinator know, and we’ll do our best to find opportunities for you!

How to Get Involved:

Just click the link below to submit an application for our volunteer program! The volunteer coordinator will reach out in the next following days with details about the role and information about how to schedule an orientation. Orientation is 60-90 minutes long and will cover all the day-to-day operations of Nuçi’s Space. After your orientation, you will have all the information you need to start signing up for volunteer shifts!

FAQ’S:

  • We do require our volunteers to complete a volunteer orientation before they are able to sign up for our regular front desk volunteer shifts. However, we often have events at Nuçi’s Space which require volunteers for roles other than the front desk where we can open volunteering up to those who haven’t been officially trained. If you’d like to volunteer in this capacity, please submit a volunteer application and note that you are specifically interested in event volunteering.

  • Nope! We are glad to have you on our team no matter how much or how little you are able to volunteer. We understand that ya’ll choose to volunteer your own free time and energy to Nuçi’s Space and we are thankful to have you as a part of our organization in any capacity.

  • We are happy to accept volunteers aged 16 and up!

  • Absolutely! We often host volunteers from UGA, especially from the Music Business (MBUS) Program and the School of Social Work. We are also happy to welcome volunteers from local high schools. Volunteer shifts are available on a first-come-first-serve basis, so shift availability may vary depending on the time of year. We document all worked volunteer hours and if you need a document attesting to your hours or a form completed for a class, please let our volunteer coordinator know at sam@nuci.org.

  • Yes! The Nuçi’s Space volunteer program is a wellness resource just like the rest of the services offered by our organization, and as such, we believe in keeping volunteering accessible to as many people as possible – especially those who need a safe and welcoming environment for growth or recovery. In service of our mission, we are happy to welcome those needing to fulfill court-ordered community service hours onto our volunteer team.

That said, we do ask that you disclose the reason for your court-ordered service. We are not able to offer volunteer hours to those with offenses related to children and animals, as well as certain felony offenses at the discretion of Nuçi’s Space. If you have any questions about this policy or if we can accommodate your needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our volunteer coordinator at sam@nuci.org.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Samantha Alex, our volunteer coordinator, at sam@nuci.org!
