At the inception of building support for Nuçi’s Space in early 2001, our founder Linda Phillips and Executive Director Bob Sleppy reached out to members of the Athens Music Scene and began to tell our story. The response for our work was incredible. In 2005 we were approached by legendary Athens-based band, Widespread Panic with a unique idea. The band members, who were already supporters of Nuçi’s Space, were embarking on a new philanthropic endeavor. The project would be called Tunes for Tots and raise funds to support struggling music programs in public schools. Widespread Panic asked Nuçi’s Space to administer the fund on their behalf. Tunes for Tots not only benefits public school music programs but a portion of the fund goes to our work to support musicians and prevent suicide.
The first Tunes for Tots event raised over $100,000 to benefit the music programs of Georgia Public Schools. To date, this event has raised over $3,000,000.
