911 - Athens-Clarke County - has a special CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) whose job it is to respond to mental health crises instead of having armed police respond to persons in distress. If you call 911, make sure you specify that you or someone you’re concerned about is in crisis but is not a threat to harm others and request the ACCPD Behavioral Health Unit, which will send an officer and a mental health professional.
